A New and Refreshing Way To Look At Art

A new and refreshing way to look at art

By Julia R. Reece

When someone says "art museum", what do you usually think of? A place where you walk around and look at stuffy old pictures and other stuff that makes no sense, right?

If you said that about the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) before November 2007, you might have been right. But not anymore. Re-opening with a brand new look and feel, the DIA, one of the country's premier art museums, is on a mission to change the perception of what a museum is like. The re-opening Thanksgiving weekend 2007 marks the end of a 6-year massive project that has added new gallery space to the DIA and has brought to light some works that haven't seen the light of day since the 1950s or before. Collections are being presented in a more "user-friendly" way; in a way that is actually fun.

They have used new technology to immerse your senses in art, without overdoing it. It's a fun, new, and exciting way of looking at art. There are hands-on exhibits, new information, and lots of things to do and see. Open Wednesdays thru Sundays, it's a great way for families to spend some quality time together for little money and learn something at the same time. It's located in the heart of Detroit's Cultural Center and easily accessible from all major freeways in the area.

Come and experience the new, exciting, and premier Detroit Institute of Arts. You'll be glad you did.
