Welcome to Travel-In-Michigan.com

I want to thank you for visiting.

Michigan is made up of two major peninsulas of land separated by the Straits of Mackinac. It is bordered on the south by Ohio and Indiana. Its northernmost border lies in Lake Superior north of the shore of Isle Royale. It is bordered on the west by Lake Michigan and Wisconsin, and on the east by Ontario, Canada; Lake Huron and Lake Erie; and Detroit River and St. Clair River.

"Michigan" comes from the Indian word Michigama, meaning "great lake" or "big lake."

After the American Revolutionary War it became part of the United States under the Treaty of Paris of 1783. Congress created the Territory of Michigan in 1805. Michigan was admitted to the Union as the 26th state on January 26, 1837.

Michigan has an unofficial nickname as The Wolverine State. It is also known as the Great Lake State, The Peninsula State, the Mitten State and the Winter Water Wonderland.

On the menu at the left, you will find articles about my great state. I hope that some of these articles will increase your desire to come visit Michigan.
